Foodstuff importers asked to register with MoPH

The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) has issued a notice asking all importers and exporters of foodstuff to start registration of their products at the ministry. Import of food products will not be allowed without registration after November 30 for dairy products and after April 30, 2019, for all other food items, the MoPH tweeted yesterday. The Port Health & Food Control Section at the MoPH is responsible for the monitoring and inspection of imported food products to ensure their fitness for human consumption. It controls and prevents the entry of adulterated food. According to information available on the MoPH website, the section regulates the destruction of food that is unfit for human consumption, collect and test samples of imported food that enter the country for the first time, as well as periodically in co-ordination with the central food laboratory. The Port Health & Food Control Section “is responsible for banning infected food coming from infected areas, providing guidance to food importers by providing them with the required specifications and standards for different imported food items and giving advice to customers regarding any information required on the correct method of importing food”.
